Tour Overview
Embark on a thrilling four-day trek to conquer the summit of Mt. Meru, which stands as the third highest peak in Tanzania. The journey takes you through lush afromontane forest and into high-altitude alpine desert, providing unparalleled views of a dormant volcano. Please be aware that for the first two days of the hike, an armed ranger is required due to the presence of wild animals. However, there is a limited number of rangers available, which means that all guests must walk together and start the trek together during these initial days. This arrangement has led to some frustrations among guests who were not previously informed. We kindly request you to ensure that all guests are informed of this important point before embarking on the hike.

Program Details
Day 1 | Miriakamba Hut

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to Arusha National Park. Upon arriving at the Momella Gate, you will complete the necessary registration formalities. Then, accompanied by your guide and an armed ranger (due to the presence of abundant wildlife in the forests), your exciting journey commences.
The forest section of the trek is particularly picturesque, adorned with fascinating strangler figs, and there’s a chance to catch a glimpse of buffalo grazing in one of the clearings. As the day progresses, you will reach a beautiful viewpoint before continuing on to Miriakamba Hut, where a delicious dinner awaits in the late afternoon.
Day 2 | Saddle Hut

- Distance – 4 Miles / 6km
- Time – 4-5 Hrs
- Climate Zone – Alpine Desert
After departing from Miriakamba Hut, you will begin your trek, starting in the forest zone. Within a few hours, you’ll transition into the alpine desert zone and arrive at Saddle Hut, where a delightful lunch awaits. In the afternoon, there’s an opportunity to embark on a hike to the summit of Little Meru, standing at an altitude of 12,532 feet (3820m), granting breathtaking views. Following this expedition, you will return to Saddle Hut for a satisfying dinner.
Day 3 | Summit Bid / Miriakamba

- Distance – 11 Miles / 18km
- Time – 12 Hrs

An early start allows you to witness the breathtaking reward of the sunrise in the east. From this vantage point, Kilimanjaro is usually visible, and you can admire the dramatic 1000-foot or more sheer cliffs of the crater. Once you have captured some stunning photos at Socialist Peak (Alt: 14,978ft, 4,565m), you make your way back to the base camp at Saddle Hut. After enjoying a hearty brunch, your descent continues down to Miriakamba Hut, where a delicious dinner awaits.
Day 4 | Arusha
- Start – 8,248ft / 2514m
- End – 4,922ft / 1500m
- Distance – 4 Miles / 7km
- Time – 3-4 Hrs
- Climate Zone – Afromontane Forest
The final section of the trek, which is shorter, takes approximately 4 hours to reach our vehicles. There, you bid farewell to our crew and have the opportunity to enjoy a brief picnic lunch and a game drive before heading back to Arusha, where a well-deserved shower awaits!
